Teaching is a very noble profession. The basic requirement for teaching as a profession is lots of patience and lots of love and understanding towards the students.

When a teacher just starts teaching, he or she, puts in all the energy and efforts available with him/her and tries to deliver the best. The teacher then establishes a name for itself and the popularity graph of the teacher rises and the teacher is liked by most of the students for its explanations skills, understanding of  the subject, sense of humor, connect with students etc…..

To achieve success may seem somewhat easy in the beginning but to maintain the popularity graph in the subsequent years is a big challenge. This may be true in most of the professions, but in case of teaching, the graph cannot go down as it can affect a whole generation, if the teacher’s donot take corrective remedial measures.

I remember an incidence from my childhood, which I feel needs a mention here, as that has left an ever lasting impression on my mind and is a source of inspiration when ever I stand in front of class to deliver my lecture.

I had joined an extra coaching class to support me in my education during my 12th Grade exams. All the students used to enjoy, appreciate and wait for the Maths period conducted by Prof.Keni. This was the case with almost all the students attending his class. Each one of us felt the teacher knew us by our names and gave individual personal attention.

One day I was delayed due to rains and entered his class, late by almost 30 mins. He still allowed me to attend the class. The class was enjoying & laughing at the jokes or anologies given by Prof. Keni, specially when he threw the piece of chalk exactly into the dustbin lying in the corner. After the class got over, Prof Keni called for me and said as you have missed the first half you can attend the class in the afternoon where he would be covering the same topic. I immediately accepted the idea without any delay.

What I experienced after 30 minutes into the repeat class was, that, the jokes which Prof. Keni cracked just a couple of hours ago, he repeated the same here with the same energy & zeal. The place where he had paused in earlier class and jokingly threw a piece of chalk into the dustbin, he repeated the same act again with same accuracy……. and the whole class broke into a laugh riot along with the professor.

I met Prof. Keni after the class to thank him for the permission he granted, but more over I wanted to narrate to him the fact that I had observed. I could not control myself and asked him, Sir, how you manage to teach the same subject in morning class and repeat it with same energy again in the next lecture, that too after a gap of only couple of hours.

The answer that he gave me was like a mool – mantra of success, which I tied like a knot in my memory and vowed to practice it whenever I face the students to conduct a class….He told me that a teacher needs to develop a habit and character to teach the same subject over and over again. Somewhere down the line it may become routine & monotonous for the teacher and may quit the high energy levels displayed earlier. The teacher should bear only one thing in mind, that, he may have taught the subject “N” times earlier, but the students sitting in front of him are hearing it for the first time. It is not their fault that they are attending the class for the first time. The teacher must neither compromise on the content of the subject or on the quality, nor reduce the energy levels.

The fact mentioned above is a true narration of the lesson I learnt from a real life professor to be implemented in day to day life for not only being successful teacher but to also do justice to the teaching profession. In this way, I as a teacher can contribute in the best possible way towards developing the future of the students who attend my class.
